The Deep End Of The Pool (VR)

An experiment in simplicity gone haywire.

What is a young duckling to do when kitchen chores get him down? There's a whole world out there, and he is meant to spend his days slaving away in Gagglebrand kitchen, botching the meals that these so-called adventurers don't even seem to enjoy? Dunk sees an opportunity to take the reins of his own life, and take him and his friend Bess into the world. Adventure awaits!

The Deep End Of The Pool is a charming, casual stroll through an RPG world at dollhouse-size, focusing on character and story. Follow the characters around, put them to work, have them confront eachother, and see the story unfold like in a comic book. Grab the magnifying glass to discover and collect little facts and details. 

Prototype

I wanted to see what it would take to do storytelling in the style of the classic (J)RPG like FFVII: simple, blocky characters, limited gestures and actions, simple but effective staging, and dialog through balloons only. It's such an utterly charming, limited palette to work with, yet what they managed to do with it was outstanding.

I was also eager to see how that would work in a VR based diorama type world, where you're the puppet master sending the protagonists all over the place, and have them find their adventure and act out the scenes.

I liked the process so much I got into fleshing out the mechanics, even a battle system, and what you have here is the result so far! Let's see how far I can take this, but for now, it's just this simple first bit of story, a prologue of sorts, maybe. Just to see if it can stand on its own.
